Niseko Summer Favourites
Whether you're an intrepid explorer, a nature lover, or are just searching for a relaxing getaway, be sure to take some time to experience these summer favourites during your Niseko green season adventure!
Hokkaido is often referred to as the "bread-basket of Japan", providing a huge portion of the nation's arable land and some of the tastiest dishes in the country. With access to some of the finest ingredients in Japan, Hokkaido BBQ are always a highlight of the summer, with freshly cooked asparagus, carrots, corn, squash, famous kutchan potatoes, locally reared meats and seafood, and much much more—all coming together to make a tantalising treat to enjoy with friends and family.
Road & mountain biking have rapidly become Niseko's most anticipated summer activities, and the area not only offers some of the best cycling weather in Japan, but also boasts some of the most popular cycle events and races in the prefecture.
Global qualifying races such as the Niseko Classic are accompanied by the likes of the Hanazono Hill Climb and Niseko Nature Ride to provide a great spread of events for all ages. Thanks to its mountainous, winding terrain and beautifully mild temperatures, Niseko is also perfect for casual, and downhill & offroad cycling, offering mountain biking trails on the ski resort grounds in the summer (with summer gondola access), as well as in-town flow trails and mud-tracks.
Although it is blanketed by white in the winter, Niseko's gently undulating slopes and varying topography provide the perfect base for summer's rolling green terrain. As a result, Niseko has a number of full-sized golf resorts, all providing meticulously maintained courses for a world-class golfing experience, with events and competitions taking place throughout the summer. No green season trip to Niseko is truly complete until you've teed off in view of the majestic Mt Yotei.
Hiking has long since been a favourite past-time in Japan, and Hokkaido's temperate climes and incredible natural beauty make Niseko the perfect destination for climbing, hiking, and even trail running. There are a huge number of fantastic spots in and around Niseko, including our own Mt Annupuri, the towering inactive volcano, Mt Yotei, as well as a a variety of local wetlands, forests, and lake trails to explore.
Rafting & Kayaking
The local river, the Shiribetsu allows for easy rafting, canoeing and fishing access. After winter, the spring melt floods down from the ski resorts and local mountains to swell it into a torrential deluge—perfect for whitewater rafting—with the waters calming into the summer for a more relaxing jaunt along the river. Enjoy half-day and full-day rafting tours with some of the many local operators, and relish the warm air, vibrant colours, and cool water with friends and family of all ages.
