Ginto Village Trail Takes Shape!

New to Niseko this year is the Ginto Village Trail, an exciting project that has birthed a multi-purpose and multi-season activity trail deep in the heart of Niseko’s natural terrain.

In addition to its international fame as one of the greatest winter ski destinations in the world, Niseko also has a strong reputation as a stunning green-season destination. Extremely popular amongst domestic travellers, many travel north to escape the heat and humidity of much of the country and to experience and enjoy Hokkaido's natural charms.

The trail (spearheaded by local organisations and individuals passionate about Niseko Hirafu and the local area) has been under construction throughout the summer, with a long winding trail carved into the thick, sasa-bamboo laden forestland. The project was divided into a number of phases, beginning with the derooting and clearing of the bamboo covering the area, the trailblazing and creation of the main path, and the shaping of the terrain.

Where in the winter, the main focus for adventurers and active travellers is often the quality of snow and the skiing and snowboarding to be had, many travel in the spring, summer, and autumn for the incredible rafting and watersports, hiking, and of course, cycling. The Ginto Village is an amazing community project that provides an expansive and wildlife rich area with access to exciting, adrenaline thrilled activities throughout the green-season.

After countless hours of manpower being spent on clearing, building and shaping, this incredible project has taken form with a selection of connected trails that can be used for a variety of different disciplines; including but not limited to mountain biking, trail-running, and downhill cycling.

As each piece comes together, locals and visitors to Niseko will also have access to a circular cross-country circuit, as well as an impressive 300m enduro course, all intertwined into the main trail. Much of the path is now available to try out, with final phases to be completed in October 2017.

Whether you’re an new downhill cyclist, experienced mountain biker or competitive trail-runner, you can find an activity and course for you. The trails have been meticulously shaped with a variety of features and various skill-levels in mind, giving all riders and explorers the freedom to explore the terrain at their own speed.
