A Magical Winter in Niseko 2020/2021

Our season here is far from over as we prepare for another few days of heavy snow on the forecast when enter March. Just over 11 metres of snowfall has accumulated at the resort this winter (compared to a total of 7.2 metres last season) and we are anticipating another few metres more.

February was a busy month with two public holidays and many families came to join us for a long weekend jam-packed with snow activities. We’ve had several days throughout the month with amazing bluebird conditions for all the holidaymakers lucky enough to be in Japan right now. Our fingers are crossed that the pow and blue skies continue well into March.

COVID-19 has unfortunately been a major difficulty for the town this season seeing visitor numbers plummeting as a result of lockdowns and closures across Japan. It has truly been a season for the locals to make the most of the mountain the way it was back in the 90s before the tourist boom and the healthy amount of snow has certainly helped!

With the lifts in operation for at least another 4 weeks it is not too late to get your slice of powder paradise this winter. The Ace Family Quad lift behind AYA Niseko will be running until April 4th and night skiing in Grand Hirafu will finish up on March 7th, although both dates may be subject to change.

While the heaviest snowfall may be behind us, March typically brings about clearer skies and less wind meaning you can ride the slopes with the best views of the Niseko area - without too much shivering!
